Till 6.30 pm, out of the results for 540 seats BJP has won 450 seats out of the total 576 seats, while the Indian National Congress has been reduced to only 58 of its candidates winning, so far it has not registered a single seat in Surat whereas new entrant Aam Admi Party, (AAP), made impressive gais by winning twenty seven seats.

A total of 192 seats in Ahmedabad, 72 in Rajkot, 64 in Jamnagar, 52 in Bhavnagar, 76 in Vadodara and 120 in Surat were up for grabs in the elections which was held on February 21.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to twitter to express his gratitude for the spectacular win. "Today’s win across Gujarat is very special. For a party that is serving in a state for over two decades to record such a phenomenal win is noteworthy. It is heartening to see widespread support from all sections of society, particularly the youth of Gujarat towards BJP," he tweeted

BJP chief JP Nadda and chief minister Vijay Rupani, have already thanked the voters of the all the six municipal corporations that voted them to power. Rupani tweeted that BJP’s lead in the six municipal corporations shows that anti-incumbency does not apply to the state of Gujarat.
