NEW DELHI: The Delhi Police said that it has received a complaint against actress Swara Bhaskar, Twitter India MD Manish Maheshwari, journalist Arfa Khanum Sherwani and others in connection with social media posts about an assault on an elderly Muslim man in Ghaziabad on 5 June.

According to the complaint filed by an advocate named Amit Acharya at the Tilak Marg police station in Delhi, he has petitioned the Delhi police to file an FIR against all those he has named under various sections of IPC including, 153 (provocation for rioting), 153A (promoting enmity between different groups), 295A (acts intended to outrage religious feelings), 505 (mischief) and 120B (criminal conspiracy).

After the incident of assault on the 72-years-old elderly man, Abdul Samad Saifi who claimed that certain people beat him up and forced him to chant 'Jai Shri Ram,' and his beard was chopped off, the Ghaziabad police have filed cases against several people and has so far have arrested three people.

Saifi's claim that he was made to say certain religious chants have also been disputed by the police who say the accused beat him up because he had sold them an amulet (Tabeez) that they believed did not work.
