NEW DELHI: A hour-long meeting between Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) supremo Sharad Pawar and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi today morning fueled strong speculations among netizens and part of the media, forcing the party to clarify that there can not be any collaboration with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in near or far future.
Almost immediately after the meeting, the PM officer tweeted a picture of the meeting between the two leaders saying, "Rajya Sabha MP Shri Sharad Pawar met PM," without disclosing any further details.
A few hours later Pawar also tweeted about the meeting saying that he had given a letter to the PM in which he had drawn his attention towards issues and conflicts in the wake of certain developments in the cooperative banking sector.
"Although the objects and reasons for amending the Act can be lauded, I wish to point out certain inconsistencies and the resulting legal inefficacy of normative provisions of the Act that are in conflict most specifically with the 97th Constitutional Amendment, State Co-operative Societies Acts and with the Co-operative Principles," Pawar tweeted.
In Mumbai, NCP spokesperson and Maharashtra minister Nawab Malik clarified about the meeting dismissing speculation about the NCP and BJP coming together fuelled by the meeting, "NCP and BJP are like two ends of a river that can never unite," he said.
Malik also said that this was a scheduled meeting and it was informed to the other two coalition partners of the Maha Vikas Aghadi government in the state.
"Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray was apprised of this meeting, even All India Congress Committee general secretary H K Patil was told about this scheduled meeting when he and other Congress leaders met Pawar in Mumbai recently," Malik said.
The meeting comes two days before parliament's Monsoon session which start's on Monday and in the backdrop of growing tension between Congress, Shiv Sena and NCP in recent times. Congress's state president Nana Patole has more been taking a dig at other two partners especially the NCP and this is creating a rift between the three parties.
