Nitish Kumar says the Pegasus controversy should be probed

NEW DELHI: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Janta Dal United JD(U) supremo who is a partner with the BJP both at the centre as well as in the state, has said that he favours a thorough probe into Pegasus controversy and phone snooping with the help the spyware

Responding to reporters query issue which has led to a logjam in the current monsoon session of the Parliament in state capital Patna during one of his weekly janata durbar, Kumar said that there should be proper discussion in the matter in Parliament and if need be there must be a probe.

Opposition parties led by Congress and Trinamool Congress have been protesting Lok Sabha as well as in Rajya Sabha since the beginning of the session over the Pegasus snooping case and this is stalled both houses of Parliament on their consistent demand for a probe.

Kumar said, "If there have been any attempts to intercept people's telephonic conversations, it would be better to get the matter probed for suitable action, these days technology can be used to harass and disturb with phone tapping."

He also added, "Those who have any concrete information with regard to such alleged snooping, must share the same with the government. I am sure the issue will be squarely addressed", he added.

Kumar, however, added that he came to know of this controversy only from whatever he has read about it in the newspapers and had no other knowledge or experience of it.

Kumar also cleared his stand on his party colleague Upendra Kushwaha's statement that he was a Prime Minister material,' and said, "I have no such aspirations. I wish to serve Bihar for as long as I can."
