Panchjanya cover story says Amazon is 'East India Company 2.0'

NEW DELHI: After censuring information technology (IT) major Infosys, Panchjanya, a journal that is widely associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the Hindi weekly has taken on Jeff Bezos founded Amazon, with a cover story calling it the second generation of the British East India Company.

The cover story in the issue dated 27 September with Bezos picture and the heading #Amazon 'East India Company 2.0' story says that the company is attempting to establish its monopoly in the Indian market and for doing so, it is taking initiatives for seizing the economic, political and personal freedom of the Indian citizens.

"In the 18th century, the East India Company entered India with business interests but ended up colonising the country for 200 years, the same is visible in the activities of Amazon," the article says.

The article also says that Amazon was assaulting Hindu values through its OTT platform Amazon Prime videos by screeing movies and television series that are against the Indian culture.

Early in September, a cover story published in Panchjanya had criticized Infosys over glitches in the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and the Income Tax (IT) portals being developed by it.

With Infosys' founder Narayana Murthy's picture on the cover page, the headline is titled Infosys 'Saakh Aur Aghaat' (Reputation and Damage) saying that the company IT project has created so many glitches that besides causing hardships it has severely dented the entire system.

After the article, RSS had distanced itself from the article calling Infosys 'anti-national' and the RSS' all-India prachaar pramukh, Sunil Ambekar had said that Panchjanya was not a mouthpiece of the RSS and the article reflects the author's opinion and should not be linked with the organisation.
