The country is of Hindus, not Hindutvadis, Rahul Gandhi attacks BJP

NEW DELHI: Addressing a party rally in Jaipur today, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said that India was a country of Hindus and not Hindutvadis, and said that the difference between the two was that Hindu searched for truth but Hindutvawadi searches for power.

Referring to the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the centre, the Congress leader drew a distinction between the two terms, saying that the Hindutvadis have to be ousted once again and the rule of Hindus brought about in the country.

He said that Mahatma Gandhi was killed by a Hindutvawadi, and said Godse — Hindutvawadi fired three bullets at his chest.

Slamming the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the centre for raising prices of all commodities Gandhi said that it was only working for the interest of capitalists and industrialists, and claimed that 90 per cent of the corporate profits in the country are made by 20 companies.

He even accused the media that was covering the event, saying that they too were mere slaves to the BJP alleging that the media and 'three or four industrialist friends' of BJP have ruined the country in the last few years.

The rally which was termed as the ‘mahangai hatao (reduce price hike) rally’ had several senior party leaders on stage including Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and his counterpart Bhupesh Baghel of Chhattisgarh.

Speaking at the event, Priyanka Gandhi also slammed the Modi-led government, saying it was selling everything that the Congress had built in 70 years to his industrialist friends. Referring to the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh she said that while it spends thousands of crores of rupees on the advertisement it is unable to give fertilizers to farmers.

"The Prime Minister was busy touring the world but couldn’t visit the protesting farmers who are dying in the line for fertilizers," she said.
