New year horror in Delhi, young woman dies after being hit and dragged by car

NEW DELHI: In a very disturbing incident in the wee hours today, a 20-year-old young woman who was riding a scooty towards her home, was first hit by a speeding car and died after being dragged for several kilometres in the undercarriage of the vehicle which has been identified as a grey Maruti Baleno.
According to initial reports and witness testimonies, the incident of hitting the woman happened in Sultanpuri near the industrial township of Kanjhawla in North West of Delhi and her body was dragged several kilometres and finally dumped at Begumpur on the Kanjhawla road.
By then the woman's body had suffered extensive injuries with burn marks due to dragging all over her body and clothes completely torn away. The reportedly five accused who were in the Maruti Baleno car then fled leaving the vehicle behind.
An eyewitness Deepak Dahiya who owns a confectionary shop in Ladpur on Kanjhawala Road said that sometime after 3 am as he was waiting for the delivery of milk he heard a loud sound and thought that it could be a tyre burst from a vehicle and he rushed to check, however to his horror he saw the car moving and dragging the body along with it under the car.
According to Dahiya he immediately called the police while he chased the car on his motorbike trying to stop it however the accused went on driving for over one and a half hours and stopped only at Begumpur which is located in Rohini. Meanwhile, the police swung into action and after shifting the deceased to SGM Hospital Mangolpur (registered as bought dead) they swiftly identified both the victim and the owner of the car and the accused based on their vehicle numbers.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer District) Harendra K Singh reported later that five people had been detained in connection with the Kanjhawala incident in Delhi, where a 20-year-old woman died on Sunday after being dragged for a few kilometres on her scooty after being hit by a car.
The victim has been identified as a resident of Aman Vihar and is survived by her mother, four sisters, and two younger brothers. Her father had lost his life eight years ago. She worked for an event management company and was the family's sole earning member.
